Z-Medica Corporation was launched in January of 2002 to market an amazing medical product invented by its co-founder, scientist and former NASA team engineer Francis X. Hursey. The product, QuikClot® brand hemostatic agent, is the first in history that rapidly stops severe arterial or venous bleeding outside the surgical setting.

After the September 11th attacks, the United States Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory and U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command were seeking new generation blood clotting products to include in an updated individual first aid kit for Marines. They learned about QuikClot® and included it in comparative testing by the Office of Naval Research and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS). QuikClot® was the only one of the tested products to achieve a 100% survival rate!

The military began using QuikClot® during the war in Afghanistan and later in Iraq, where it has been credited with saving more than 150 lives. As major news organizations reported on the amazing success of QuikClot® and it won prestigious new product awards, first responders, security firms, government agencies and friendly governments around the globe began to buy the product.

Z-Medica's motto, "The greatest privilege is to make a difference," reflects its founders' personal credo. To insure that the company could grow to meet worldwide demand for the lifesaving product, in 2004 Hursey and co-founder Bart Gullong turned over day-to-day management to a team of experienced medical products manufacturing and marketing executives led by current CEO Raymond J. Huey.

Huey has doubled the size of the company and overseen the launch of its second major product QuikClot ACS™ (Advanced Clotting sponge.) He continues to seek and nurture collaborative research and development relationships with the military, major universities, teaching hospitals and medical research facilities. Trained as a Master Black Belt in General Electric's Six Sigma program, he leads the company's commitment to establishing and maintaining world-class business practices and technology development, operations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Z-Medica serves a number of markets concerned with stopping blood loss and saving lives. Currently, Z-Medica provides products to the military, first responder and homeland security markets. The company has products in development for the professional health care/medical market and others.
