Giacomo Basadonna, MD, PhD, FACS
Currently a tenured Professor of Surgery and the Director of the Division of Organ Transplantation at University of Massachusetts Medical Center Department of Surgery, Dr. Basadonna has been an esteemed member of the medical field for over 25 years since receiving both his M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Milan in Milan, Italy.
Prior to joining the University of Massachusetts, Dr. Basadonna was tenured as a Professor of Surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine and served simultaneously as the Chief of Pancreas and Islet Transplantation Services. He is a renowned pioneer of pancreas/kidney transplants, for patients who are suffering from complications of diabetes.
Dr. Basadonna has also held positions at Stanford University, University of Texas, UC Davis Medical Center, and the University of Minnesota. He has also been active within the academic realm of medicine, having published numerous papers and abstracts. Dr. Basadonna also is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of many other professional societies including the Association of Academic Surgery, American Society of Transplant Surgeons, American Diabetes Association, and the Society of University Surgeons.
