First Responders
Blood loss from traumatic injury causes 50,000 civilian deaths a year in the United States alone, according to government statistics. Police, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics are usually first on the scene of a fire, traffic accident, crime, disaster and other events that can cause victims to suffer traumatic injuries and severe blood loss. Until QuikClot®, these first responders often had to stand by in frustration, helpless to stop loss of life due to bleed-out.
Across the United States and abroad first responders are joining their military counterparts in adopting QuikClot® as a quick, effective and safe treatment for all traumatic bleeding injuries.
Now first responders have the power to keep patients alive until they can be transported to a hospital or other trauma facility. Many police and fire departments are deploying QuikClot® in every official vehicle/vessel on both land and water. This new-found ability to be a lifesaver when bleeding is at issue is creating a growing list of QuikClot® heroes and heroines - and saving lives.
